It’s a valuable time to remember to take care of yourself as we move further toward the holidays. As everything around us seems to be picking up momentum, it’s critical to schedule time to relax in your busy schedule.
Hopefully, you made it through Thanksgiving, with little stress and worry. If you were profoundly lucky, you found enrichment in the conversations around the table. Perhaps it even brought you much closer to you and yours by the exchange of ideas and perspectives.
While many of us are still enjoying our leftovers, others are out marching headlong into the holidays that lie directly ahead of us. We are already decorating our trees. We are hanging our lights. We are making our holiday plans. It’s definitely that time of year again. But do you plan enough time to take care of yourself?
In our busy schedule, it’s important to care for yourself. When we are our busiest we do better when we tend to our energy and stress levels. Gift yourself a few moments each day to meditate, doing so will help you stay focused. Using a charged candle can help you maintain your meditative state. Making time for yourself for long hot baths is always recommend for reducing stress. Using essential oils, like Lavender oil, can elevate a bath to a mini vacation that melts the stress away.
Keeping lists helps to orders our minds, and assists us in remaining organized. Being organized is an essential part of keeping our calm as we catapult toward December. Journaling your holiday plans, in a special notebook each year gives us an even bigger holiday overview. This saves the memories of our past meal prepping, gift-giving lists, how we celebrated and with who. This process helps us keep track of many other little holiday jewels. It is a beautiful way to keep track of our holidays.
In 1988, I tried my hand at making a Christmas Goose. It was a complete disaster. My notes about it in my holiday journal, are still a source of joy for me. My kids comments about the goose at the time, are a treasure. My little journal is most tattered these days, but it’s worth more than gold to me.
Another way to keep it all together and organized is by using the same tote or designated bag all season. You know, the many store fliers, and all the necessary odds and ends we need during this time of year. When you throw in holiday essentials like a book of stamps, a roll of tape tied to your scissors, a place for your receipts, and a few holiday cards, you can save yourself several steps when caught unaware. You could even keep a few gift cards in such a bag for an unexpected quick gift needs. Add to that bag your favorite chapstick, some nice lotion, an extra set of gloves, a few pens, and presto, you have your holiday headquarters to go. That is stress relieving gold!
Remember to keep your holiday spirit in good check by making the time to take care of yourself this season. You deserve it.
